My Visit to The Comfortable Couch Company

My couch is in North Carolina. My pilot is on Southwest.

In 2+ years of searching online for couches, using every conceivable search term in the furniture universe, I had never stumbled upon The Comfortable Couch Company.  How is that even possible? Fortunately for me, only awesome people read my blog and one of you pointed me to their (soon to be rebuilt so they won’t be so hard to stumble upon) website. I’ve been stalking them ever since. How convenient that I already had a trip planned for NC to visit my parents… Where the CCC showroom just happens to reside… Located within driving distance of my parent’s house… Of course, I went there.

Mom and I walked in the door and flopped down on the first couch we saw – a purple velvet Chesterfield. The Comfortable Couch Company is aptly named. It was a freaking comfortable couch! While we lay there like broccoli, a nice woman (whose name I don’t remember) came to talk to us. I asked her permission to take some photos for the blog post I would be writing about my visit and she said OK. Strangely, the mention of writing a blog post about their couches didn’t prompt her to offer me a free one. I know, right? I’m still reeling from that unexpected twist. Good thing mom’s head is in the right place…

She’d better not be thinking of my brother or we’re definitely going to have a problem…

So, now you know my opinions here are honest, as I have no incentive to write good things about their couches. Not even a little incentive. Like a discount-sized one. Nada.

The Comfortable Couch Company showroom in North Carolina

As you can see, their showroom is pretty large with lots of comfortable couches to sit on. I have only one couch in my crappy house and it’s like a magnet for my ass. As I walk by, I can feel the pull and I have no choice but to sit down. And the couch won’t let me up for hours, so I just sit there and watch TV. It’s a major reason why I don’t get anything done. Can you even imagine working in a place like this with butt magnets, like, everywhere?

Me Resting

This handsome blue velvet couch grabbed my ass. I liked it. I’ll just lie here and rest while you check out the rest of their showroom…

CCC has more fabric choices than what they show online. In fact, since they make these couches custom, you can pretty much get anything you want, which is perfect for me because I’m annoyingly particular. So annoying that they may wish I hadn’t stumbled upon their website. But it’s too late for that now… Muahahaha.

There were a couple of other nice people there in the showroom. They may have been owners. I’m not sure. They were helpful. I don’t remember their names or what they looked like. I think one of them was a man. But this little girl is Paisley…

My memory sucks, but I remember the key information. Hi, Paisley!

While I’m not quite ready to order my new Chesterfield (I need a floor first. And a kitchen.), I’m so glad I got to check out The Comfortable Couch Company in person. I will have no qualms about ordering online when the time comes. Maybe next year. Definitely by 2016. Probably.

This would normally be the perfect spot to end my fantastically entertaining post, but I have a bonus video to share with you! My flight home from NC was also fantastically entertaining. A delay involving luggage (something to do with checking to see just how long it takes for rain to completely soak through a suitcase I think) kept us at the gate for 20 minutes or so. Maybe a half hour. I actually don’t know exactly how long we were sitting there because the flight crew was so fun. Check this out:

How cute is he? He can read me a story anytime he wants…

Hey, how about sharing My Crappy House with your friends? That’d be cool and stuff. Word.

***Time travel links! The year is now 2021… It’s seven years later and I do have a couch. Sadly, it’s not a CoCoCo couch. Don’t get me wrong. CCC couches are amazing and worth every penny! I’m just poor, so I had to pivot! (see what I did there?) and choose this one instead. I have no regrets. (But I do miss Paisley…)

Subscribe and I'll love you forever.

Every time you share, an angel gets their wings.

Glad you liked it, they really are good people and make top quality. If Paisley was in then the owners were definitely there, the younger, auburn haired girl is the daughter and she’s there a lot. Just a tip, if you’re at all willing to forgo the ultra pickiness, you can get a pretty fab deal on floor samples they’re retiring.

    • My Crappy House

I am definitely getting my couch there. I’m so happy you recommended them! I’m waaaaay too picky to settle for a floor sample, so I’ll just have to save up to get exactly what I want. I’m pretty sure the woman showing me fabric samples had red hair. And she helped me get a good shot of Paisley. It was a good visit

I know all about the ass magnets! They show up in the strangest furniture!! I found one in a recliner at a furniture store. After three separate “post horrible ER work shifts” visits to the store to sit in the chair, I finally brought it home where it continues to draw me in!
    Keep posting!!!!

    • My Crappy House

Oh good, so it’s not just me! It’s such a strange phenomena. I wonder if anyone is doing any formal studies…

  • Katherine

Oh, yes, the ass magnets. Dangerous, they are. I love, love, love me a velvet Chesterfield (am a sucker for velvet anything). I’ve seen that sofa company and they are the bomb, but do me no good over here in Franceland. Something like that in France will set you back twice the amount, and it’s much harder to find.
I was a flight attendant with US Airways, and they never let us do fun stuff like the Southwesters get to do. Southwest is a brilliant airline. Good luck saving up for the couch! And yes, this post, as ever, was wildly entertaining.

    • My Crappy House

Velvet is the bomb. I KNOW it’s going to be hell to keep clean with Egor, but I don’t care. It will be worth it! French furniture isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when I think of ass magnets. They could probably use the CCC over there in Franceland…

Southwest is pretty brilliant with the laid back approach. You can tell they’re enjoying their jobs and the passengers certainly enjoy them enjoying their jobs. I have nothing but good things to say about Southwest.

    • Lilli w/ CoCoCo

Hi, I’m Lilli, the daughter of the owners here at CoCoCo. Katherine, I wanted to let you know that we do ship internationally! We’ve recently shipped to Norway so France shouldnt be too hard if you are interested.

THIS is the one most useful dialog I’ve found in blogland. One day CoCoCo will get an email from me. Probably this summer. Thank you, Crappy House! I come here from the forum of doom, and boom!

    • My Crappy House

Thank you! You definitely won’t be disappointed in a CoCoCo couch. Tell them I sent you. (That will get you absolutely nothing, but it might be fun to say you came from My Crappy House!)

    • My Crappy House

It was as comfortable as it was delicious! Your circular sofa sounds yummy too!

  • Mom

Who am I? Too much pressure, can not …….. OK IM BACK. I have no favorite children, they are all special to me. BUT my grand children are my joy. I too love Southwest but I never got storytime.
By the way that was not what I was thinking while sitting on the couch, I was hungry. Also you come from a long line of butt magnets, it’s hereditary.

    • My Crappy House

Mom, I’m positive that you were thinking you wanted to buy me that couch. I didn’t add that thought bubble. It was there when I downloaded the photo from my camera. Pictures don’t lie…

  • Marilyn ,BIGBIGFAN ,Piggott

Man, you know, everytime I read your blog I SMILE!! What is it about YOU that can make me SMILE so much!!! I LOVE you and I LOVE your style, your class, your whole being!!! You’re a pretty good writer too! I also love the couch you fell in love with, better than the pilot!!

    • My Crappy House

You smile because I am hilaaaaaarious!

The pilot on the couch would be my preference…

  • Aferal

You give us, your audience, true enjoyment,& it’s so awesome someone was able
to point you in the direction of your dream sofa.. That beautiful green velvet *swoon*! How cool would it be if Mr.Pilot delivered your sofa? Ha ha!

P.S. If you don’t mind, did they give you an estimate of what the cost would be? I once had a vintage green velvet sofa( same color of your dream sofa) which some found hideous( the color), but I LOVED. Alas, I had to give it up when I moved overseas for a few yrs. I always figured it’d be crazy $$s to recreate my green velvet sofa. It was definitely a butt magnet, sooo comfy!

    • My Crappy House

It makes me happy to hear you enjoy reading my blog. I really enjoy writing it!

That green isn’t for everyone, but I think it’s awesome and I’ll never get sick of it! Good thing, too, because I hear these couches will last a long time! I didn’t ask them for a specific price for my couch, mostly since I’m not sure exactly what size I will get, but they have this pretty thorough price chart (click here) that says I should be in the $2500 range. I’m OK with that, as long as I get exactly what I want.

  • Carol

I love the couches and laughed so much seeing your mom on the couch,at first I was like that woman looks so familiar lol, maybe I will have to go there when I go down cause I’m going to be needing a couch soon.

As for Southwest I love them and was also entertained a few times I flew their Airlines also Jetblue does some entertaining.

    • My Crappy House

Their couches aren’t cheap, but I like that they custom make what you want. Perfect for someone picky like me. You definitely should check them out!

  • Violet

Hi, there! I kind of just stumbled over here and found your site, which I am clearly going to have to hide from my husband so he doesn’t find out that bird-handed women can do this stuff on our own. If he didn’t think I needed his man-strength to lay a sub-floor, he would totally slink away when I wasn’t looking and go fishing. Anyway, I like your writing style and the fact that you’ve murdered-out some of your 2nd hand finds. There are so many hideous things that can be made awesome with a few coats of black paint.

Nice to ‘meet’ you, I look forward to reading more of your de-crappifying efforts in the future! I, on the other hand, need to get back to bad-mouthing my miserable, cheap-in-1920 bathroom while doing absolutely nothing about it. Peace!

    • My Crappy House

Hey! Nice you ‘meet’ you too You made me laugh with that visual of your husband slinking away in the night (My brain made it night time. And had him dressed like a ninja. Carrying fishing gear.)

  • Liz

Lady. That there is furniture porn. The rich velvet, the deep colors, the tufted peaks providing ample buffering zone between you and the strong couch skeletons.
I wonder if that place has to hire a tufter before filming commercials.

  • Desiree

Thank you SO MUCH for this post! I have searched high and low for a cool looking comfortable couch. I don’t care for the ones that look like a bunch of pillows sewn together and we settled on one from Z Gallerie a mere two years ago that my kids have positively TRASHED. We’re moving in a year so I get to buy another sofa – yay!! – and I’m totally getting one from CCC thanks to you.

Therefore, I believe you TOTALLY should get a kickback or a discount or something.

    • My Crappy House

Aren’t they sexy? They’re really well made and, since they’re custom, you can get a fabric that is kid friendly. I asked the woman there about cat friendly fabrics and she said micro suede was probably the most durable, but she wrinkled her nose as she said it and added that they don’t offer it standard. I’m pretty sure she said they could do it, it’s just not the natural fibers they prefer working with.
