A Pointless Poll

If I tell you your opinion doesn’t matter to me at all, would you still want to give it to me anyway? Great! It doesn’t! Let’s take a pointless poll…

Remember the fancy new bookshelves I built? Of course you do. I only posted about them a month ago. (That’s not that long.) Anyway, I’ve been shopping for curtains to use as a door to the closet. After many contenders, I have chosen a winner. Still, even though I’ve already made my decision, I thought it might be fun to set up a pointless poll so you can vote for your favorite and see if your taste is as good as mine.

Here’s a reminder of what the rest of the office looks like. The closet curtain has to compliment the existing window curtains. It has to say, “Hello, window curtains. You look stunning. May I join you? Is this rod taken?”

Take a look at the office floor plan so you can see how these curtains will relate to each other. This information is crucial to the decision making process. (You know. The decision I already made without you.)

I bought a lot of freaking curtains. (I also looked for fabric to make one myself, but I didn’t find any I liked.) The following curtains (in no particular order) are the ones that made my first cut. What do you think? (Not that it matters…)

Think you know which one I chose? Do you even care? You might as well just take a guess. There’s no pressure.

Take the poll:

I’ll post my curtain choice soon(ish. You know me…). In the meantime, I moved my books into their new home. Would you believe there wasn’t enough room for all of them in the book condo? Well, believe it, baby. I have that many books. Time to donate a few, I suppose…

Don’t they look so happy and well adjusted?

So, did you enjoy the pointless poll? Should I make it a regular feature? I mean, I do have plenty of decisions to make that I don’t need your help with…

Subscribe and I'll love you forever.

If my opinion counts for jack, then I feel comfortable to tell you that your office layout sucks Too much light to see your screen and very bad fung shui. If your going to float your desk, turn it around so you can stretch your eyes (and be inspired to write better posts) as you gaze out the windows

    • My Crappy House

Haha I like your style! You wanna fight? OK, so I would never want my back to the door, the windows face north and therefore cause zero glare on my screen, and this desk is so massive that this was the only orientation that would work in this tiny room. PLUS, not only are my windows too high to gaze out of, but I would never leave them uncovered because I wouldn’t want psychos peering in. My neighborhood is shady.

What else ya got? Bring it!

Good thing this pointless poll has a pointless comment section. I like the gray sheer and gray stripe. They add depth.

(Also I just wanna say, I like how you write. You’re fun.)

I like all of the curtains, but for some reason, the first option spoke to me.

I like your ampersand collection. I have a few too, and even have an ampersand tattoo. It’s my favorite symbol.

    • My Crappy House

Mine too! I only have a few, but I buy them when I see them. Maybe I’ll arrange them on the wall when I get enough.

  • Susie Schneider

I agree with you on the office layout, the power position is always facing the door! But you can swing your chair around if you feel like gazing out the window

  • Charmaine

Personally I like color, but if you are going with the dark gray then I think the best choice is the one YOU like! You are AWEsome and that is every color!!!

    • My Crappy House

I agree! I love color too! I’m trying to keep the office pretty monochromatic though because it helps me focus on my work.

  • LaFawne

Love your blog and your writing style! I really,
really hope you chose the first one. I do not care that it is YOUR choice, I really like the first one. So use it! You know that random internet strangers will always have your best interests at heart-right?
    Keep on keeping on!

    • My Crappy House

LOL you sold me! (No, not really…) I will tell you that my mom really likes that one too.

  • Shar

I selected the Silver Lattice(the background is gray right?) I think I liked it because the wall is so white over there against all the gray walls, so it sorta ties the gray in to that area. I liked #1 that was my second choice but then it looked so bright compared to the rest of the room, although the pattern appears to tie in with the chair(You need to show that in the photo too!) The others, eh, not to much.

    • My Crappy House

I like your thought process! I’m assuming you mean the purple chair? That’s eventually going elsewhere, so it’s not a factor for this decision. I wish I had the books in place for all of the photos. They change the look of things. This is not a fair poll at all!

    Hey-
Love your blog – learned about clamps, thanks!
I would personally bag the curtains( pardon the pun) , put more shelves in closet and make it a library alcove – perhaps with artwork to gaze upon – just a thought. A girl can never have too many books or shelves to enjoy them!

    • My Crappy House

I LOVE that idea, and if I didn’t need storage so desperately I would do that. This closet is going to have a ton of crap in it that no one (well, me!) wants to see.

  • Pamela

I only picked ‘no, this is the stupidest post you’ve ever written’ to point out to you and your crappy house that stupidest is not a word. It sounds really good and stupid, but not really a word, even though you used it, I still knew what you meant. BUT any time you post a poll I will participate because I love you and your crappy blog that much.

    • My Crappy House

Haha I was wondering if anyone would pick that option! I submit to you exhibit A as proof of the validity of “stupidest”. I won’t say I never make up words, but this one is legit, yo.

    • My Crappy House

They all went back to their respective stores. I’m super good at refolding curtains now…

  • Pamela @ Alter'd Relics

I must be ‘proceeding from mental illness, I’m foolish and senseless’. Dang, I’m ‘in a state of stupor….stupefied’. I will never again doubt you. You might have a Crappy House, but apparently you’ve learned something from reading or dusting all those book.

    Color me embarrassed.

  • Jenny Ballard

Nahhh! Ditch the curtain and go with custom shelving for a recessed book case look. Happy to give my honest opinion since you don’t care anyway. That makes it fun!

    • My Crappy House

Thanks Jenny! Yeah, someone else suggested that and it’s a great idea, but I can’t give up the storage space.

  • Mom

Since I know the one you picked is the one I liked in the store, I have to tell you the Black and White one did not even make my top three. You may have to go shopping again:).

  • Mia

I really liked the first one, until I pictured the shelves full of stuff, then it just seemed too busy. So I’m voting for/insisting on the Scooby Doo bookcase. Nothing less will do now:)

    • My Crappy House

I like your thinking! You’re onto something with the “too busy”. And I totally wish I had thought of the Scooby Doo secret passage haunted house curtain, but I didn’t

    • My Crappy House

Who cares what you think? Haha, JK Julie. A pocket door would be awesome, but there’s no room for it. I hate bi-folds, so a curtain it is. We have to do the best with what we’ve got…

  • ruth

They all look crappy. You need to make one of those secret doors that look like a bookshelf. Then you could store more of your books and your office would be so cool. YOU could do it!!

  • Jeannette

You made the awesome bookshelves so now make two narrow doors with hidden hinges. Add a bling doorknob to each door so when you pull them together towards you to open you’ll have a “I’m here at the ball” moment.
Keep ’em white and maybe add a mirror, art to one and use the other as an inspiration board.

    • My Crappy House

Awesome suggestion. I had only really just breezed by the thought of bi-fold doors before settling on doing a curtain. Maybe I should think about doors a little more. You paint a lovely picture!
